The magnetic field automatically forces the sheets apart and separates them. When the upper sheet is removed, the next one rises immediately.
To prevent malfunctions in fully automated production processes we recommend the use of a number of extra sheet separators.

Installation example 1

Corner installation

For optimum results, it is best to place two sheet separators at the corner(s) of stacks of large steel sheets.
The arrows in the photo indicate the recommended direction of transport in which the sheets can best be carried off after separation.

Door magnets
Holding magnets are an essential component of a door magnet system. With the correct electromagnet, you build a secure system for automatically opening, closing or locking doors.
 
Pick & place magnet
Round electro holding magnets have a shallow magnetic field. This makes them particularly suitable for picking up, holding and unloading thin steel objects, up to 10 mm thick.
 
A known problem when picking up thin sheets with a powerful electro holding magnet is a too deep magnetic field radiation which causes the system to pick up several sheets at once. The use of many small electromagnets prevents this.
The maximum shear force is approximately 1/4 of the maximum holding force.
 
The central threaded hole on the back makes assembly very simple.

Working principle

Switchable with electric voltage

There are 2 types:
Electromagnet type attracts a steel object upon switching on the coil in the magnet. When the coil is switched off, the magnet immediately releases.
 
Electro-permanent magnet type possesses permanent magnet force. When the coil is turned off, the magnet pulls the workpiece. Switching on the coil neutralizes the permanent magnetic force. The magnet is now out of operation and immediately releases the workpiece.
 
These magnets are an ideal solution when you need to reliably hold the workpiece in the unpowered state.

Cleaning unit application

In order to easily clean the magnet unit and to ensure operator safety, Goudsmit has developed the magnet rotor cleaning unit. It is available as an accessory with the rotating Cleanflow magnet. With this cleaning unit, the magnetic bars are easily removed from the extractor and securely placed on the tray. This keeps the magnet clean, preventing it from falling on the ground or being attracted by a steel object. The magnet is then easily accessible from all sides and therefore easy to clean. Even if the magnet unit is saturated with attracted metal particles, and the magnetic bars are therefore very difficult to remove from the extractor, this is not a problem with the cleaning unit. The tray collects the attracted iron parts.

Ferrite plate magnets are cost-effective, yet less powerfull and larger than neodymium plate magnets. They have the advantage that they can be used up to 100 °C. They remove ferrous contaminants from 0.5 mm. Not suitable for weakly magnetic stainless steel contamination.
 
Select your magnet size on the desired holding field depth. The deeper the field should reach, the heavier and larger magnet you have to select. For this reason it can be wise to select the more compact and strong neodymium (Neoflux®) plate magnets.
 
Placement
You can easily hang them suspended over a conveyor belt, attach them to the wall of a product channel, or mount them under a passing product stream. For dust-tight installation against the wall of a free-fall pipeline, we supply neodymium plate magnets including a mounting plate and quick-cleaning mechanism (see chute magnets).

With this cleaning unit, the magnetic bars are easily removed from the extractor and securely placed on the tray. This keeps the magnet clean, preventing it from falling on the ground or being attracted by a steel object. The magnet is then easily accessible from all sides and therefore easy to clean. Even if the magnet unit is saturated with attracted metal particles, and the magnetic bars are therefore very difficult to remove from the extractor, this is not a problem with the cleaning unit. To prevent malfunctions in fully automated production processes we recommend the use of a number of extra sheet separators.

Application

Application

Ferrite magnetic plates (plate magnets) remove ferromagnetic (Fe) particles as small as 0.5 mm. An advantage is that they are suitable for use at higher temperatures (250°C), but they are not suitable for capturing stainless steel scrapings.
 
The dimensions are selected based on the desired holding field depth: the deeper the field, the heavier and larger the magnet becomes. For this reason one often opts for the more compact and equally strong neodymium (Neoflux®) plate magnets.

Placement

Placement

Overbelt placement or installation in/against a free-fall line. For placement in a free-fall line Goudsmit also supplies mounting plates (see also chute magnets). This makes dust-proof mounting possible and makes them easy to clean.
 
For a width in excess of 300 mm a neodymium magnet is recommended for installation in a free-fall line. In such applications ferrite plate magnets are too heavy for manual cleaning. If you are considering overbelt placement, keep in mind that the construction directly beneath the magnet must be made of non-magnetic material.

Design

Design

Goudsmit builds plate magnets for mounting above production lines that feature 'flux control' to create a deeper holding field. These have extra magnets between the poles that cause the lines of flux to penetrate deeper into the product flow. A ridge prevents captured iron particles from being carried away again by the product flow.


Cleaning

Cleaning

Cleaning of the plate magnet is performed manually (by wiping) or through use of an extractor plate (quick cleaning). Hereby you swing the extractor plate away from the magnet. The Fe particles fall off of the extractor plate as soon as they are moved far enough away from the magnetic field. For quick cleaning, see also chute magnets.
